Leader FAQs

Can I lead with my friend if we are both just one year out of high school?

No, one of the two leaders needs to be over 21. We work very hard to place you with a great fit!

Will there be as much walking as last year?

We know that as much as that San Diego ocean breeze makes walking a little more tolerable, the USD campus is pretty spread out! Rest assured, we have some changes planned to alleviate the walking to and from different camp activities.

We are increasing the number of golf carts, which will be free to pick you up as they pass you (priority will be given to leaders or students with physical limitations, but we’ll pick up as many people as we can safely fit on the cart). We will also have strategically placed dorm locations to make your routes as short as possible. Finally, because we are all more aware of the time and effort required for transportation to and from activities, we are adjusting our schedule to give more buffer time between activities.

Be ready to have a positive attitude and bring comfortable shoes. We know it’s a lot of walking, but we are grateful to be back at USD and will do what it takes to make this easier on us all! Your positive attitude is crucial!

Do I need to be a member at Saddleback Church?

No. While this is an expectation for HSM leaders who serve throughout the year, we make an exception at summer camp. However, you’re still an extension of Saddleback Church while serving at camp. In the interview we will confirm that you attend a local church and hold the same beliefs as Saddleback Church.

How much do I need to pay?

Leaders attend for FREE! We are so grateful that you want to serve students and want you to enjoy the week free of charge.
